Ballad Health is a nonprofit regional health system serving 29 counties across Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and surrounding Appalachian communities, with 20 hospitals and a broad network of physician, behavioral health, and post-acute services reaching close to one million people. Its FY2025 reporting cites approximately 2,531 beds and $2.6 billion in net revenue, with a workforce of roughly 14,000 team members. Ballad is particularly notable for its concentration in rural healthcare and was created in 2018 through the merger of Mountain States Health Alliance and Wellmont Health System under a state-supervised Certificate of Public Advantage structure.
